six instructional strategies
1. Cooperative Learning Groups - organize students into small work groups utilizing a variety of criteria such as common experiences or interests
2. Identifying Similarities and Differences - break a concept into its similar and dissimilar characteristics in order to understand complex problems
3. Nonlinguistic Representation/Graphic Organizers - the more students are exposed to both visual and linguistic instruction, the more opportunity they have to achieve
4. Homework and Practice - kept to a minimum, homework is utilized to either reinforce learned material or prepare for upcoming units
5. Advanced Organizers - expose students to information before they formally "learn" it
6. Cues and Questions - help relate what was just learned to what the student already knows
